Body Cocoons - Series Statement
Manipulating elements of texture and line to mimic and exaggerate the fluidity and movement of the human form, I create knitted sculptures that react with the viewer and their environment. Some reach out from the walls, while those suspended from the ceilings sway gently, responding to changes in air currents. These forms are both protective and open.
The Body Cocoons are often compared to the abstract sculptures of Ruth Asawa and Constantin Brâncuși. Flattered by the comparison and as homage, I seek to further the dialog by personalizing their traditions. I insert my own theme of concealing and revealing ourselves through our outward appearances.
